White Noise privacy.

App by Springlab · Effective 19 October 2026

White Noise plays steady sounds (rain, waves, wind, a fan, white, pink and brown noise) to help you sleep, settle a baby or focus. You need no account to use it. This page tells you what data the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

Short version

  • The app makes every sound on your phone. It does not use the microphone, and it records nothing.
  • Your mixes, timer and settings stay on your phone.
  • The app shows no ads.
  • The app sends usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase, so we can fix and improve it. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it asks you first. Everywhere, you can turn it off in Settings (details below).
  • Pro is bought through Google Play. We never see your payment details.
  • We, Springlab, run no servers of our own.

Data the app uses on your phone

DataWhyLeaves the phone?
Your settings: the last mix and its volumes, timer, fade-out, saved mixes and their names (Pro), colourTo remember your choicesNo (Android may include them in your own device backup)

Permissions

PermissionWhy
NotificationsTo show that a sound is playing, with Pause and Stop. You can say no; the sound still plays.
Foreground service (media playback)So the sound keeps playing all night with the screen off or in another app, only while you play it.
VibrationFor the touch feedback.
InternetSo Google Play can confirm a Pro purchase, and to send usage statistics and crash reports (you can turn these off). The sounds need no internet.

Usage statistics and crash reports (Google Firebase)

To see which features people use and to fix crashes, the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. Google runs them for us, as our service provider. While usage data is on, they collect:

DataDetailsWhy
App interactionsScreens you open (the mix, the night screen), and events such as “sound started” (which sounds, how many, the timer kind and the fade-out length), “sound stopped” (about how long it played, and whether you, the timer or the notification stopped it), “timer set” and “mix saved” (how many sounds; never the name)To see which features are used, and whether the sound plays all night
Crash logs and diagnosticsWhere the app crashed, app version, phone model, Android versionTo fix crashes
App instance IDA random ID for this install. It is not your advertising IDTo count users and sessions
Approximate locationCountry or region, which Google works out from your IP addressTo see where the app is used

Never collected: sound or recordings, the names of your mixes, your name, your email, the advertising ID, your precise location, or anything you type. The app turns off Google's advertising features in Analytics.

Your choice. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks you before it sends anything. Everywhere, you can turn it off in Settings → Share usage data. Then the app stops sending, deletes crash reports it has not sent yet and resets its usage data on your phone. Google's use of this data is covered by Privacy and security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.

Purchases

Pro is a one-time purchase through Google Play, with no subscription. Google Play handles the payment under Google's own terms and privacy policy. The app only asks Google Play whether you own Pro, and keeps that answer on your phone. We never see your payment details, and the app sends no purchase data to us.

Children

The app is not made for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your choices

  • Turn off Settings → Share usage data at any time.
  • Take back the notification permission in Android Settings at any time.
  • Uninstall the app to delete everything it stored on your phone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
