Coming soon to Google PlaySleep sounds app for AndroidWhite Noise
Rain, waves, a fan or plain noise to help you fall asleep, settle a baby or focus. It plays until you stop it, with the screen off, all night. No ads, and no subscription.
What it does.
Everything below is in the app today. Nothing is promised for later.
The sounds
- Rain, waves, wind, a room fan, and white, pink and brown noise.
- Each sound is made live on your phone, so it never loops and has no seam.
- Mix up to 3 sounds, each with its own volume.
- No internet and no download needed.
All night
- It plays until you stop it, with the screen off, like a music app.
- Pause and Stop in the notification, on the lock screen and on a headset.
- Unplug your headphones and it pauses, so it never jumps to the speaker.
- If the phone's audio system restarts in the night, the sound starts again by itself.
Sleep timer
- Stop after 15, 30, 60 or 90 minutes, or never.
- The sound gets slowly quieter and ends exactly at the stop time.
- A very dim night screen comes a few seconds after your last touch.
Free, and Pro
- Free: every sound, mixes of 3, the timer and all-night play.
- Pro, one payment: saved mixes, stop at a clock time, a fade of up to 10 minutes, five more colours.
- No subscription, no ads. No microphone, nothing recorded.
Questions
Is White Noise free?
Yes. Every sound, mixes of up to 3 sounds, the sleep timer with a fade-out, the night screen and all-night play are free. Pro is one payment (US$2.99) for saved mixes, stop at a clock time, a fade-out of up to 10 minutes and five more colours. No subscription, no ads.
Does it keep playing all night with the screen off?
Yes. It plays as media, like a music app, so Android keeps it going with the screen off. It plays until you stop it or the timer ends. If the phone's audio system restarts, the app starts the sound again by itself.
Does the sound loop?
No. Each sound is made live on your phone, so there is no recording that repeats and no seam where a loop starts again.
Will it wake me when the timer ends?
No. The sound gets slowly quieter and ends exactly at the stop time. The fade is 30 seconds, or up to 10 minutes with Pro.
Does it use the microphone?
No. White Noise does not use the microphone and records nothing. Your mixes stay on your phone.
When is it on Google Play?
Soon. The app is finished and in testing. This page will link to Google Play on the day it is out.
