Level & Compass privacy policy

App by Springlab · Effective 15 October 2026 · For app version 0.2.3 and later

Level & Compass is a bubble level and a compass for Android. You need no account to use it. This page tells you what data the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

Short version

Data the app uses on your phone

DataWhyLeaves the phone?
Motion and magnetic sensorsTo show tilt, angle and headingNo
Approximate location (only if you turn on true north)To work out the magnetic declination for your area. The app keeps only the result: the declination, and the strength and dip of Earth's magnetic field there (used to warn about magnets). It does not keep the location itself. No
Your settings and calibrationTo remember your choicesNo (Android may include them in your own device backup)
Whether you own ProA copy of Google Play's answer, so Pro users never see an ad, even offlineNo (see Purchases)

Ads (free version)

The free version shows one banner, at the bottom of the Settings screen. Google AdMob provides it. Google's Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares this data, encrypted in transit, for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention:

DataDetails
IP addressCan be used to estimate your general location
App interactionsFor example app launches and ad taps
DiagnosticsApp and SDK performance, such as launch time
Device identifiersAndroid advertising ID and app set ID

To know if it must ask for consent, the app uses Google's User Messaging Platform. It contacts Google each time the app starts (free version only). Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and some US states), the app asks for your consent before it loads ads, and starts Google's ad SDK only when the answer allows it. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings. The ad SDK may also use Android's Privacy Sandbox ad features (Topics, ad measurement); you can turn these off in Android Settings, under Privacy → Ads (the exact path depends on your phone). When you open the app with Pro, it does not start the ad SDK and does not ask for ad consent. Google's use of this data is covered by How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

Purchases

Pro is a one-time purchase through Google Play, with no subscription. Google Play handles the payment under Google's own terms and privacy policy. The app only asks Google Play whether you own Pro, and keeps that answer on your phone. We never see your payment details, and the app sends no purchase data to us.

Children

The app is not made for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
