GPS speedometer app for AndroidSpeedometer
Your speed from GPS, in a big dial you can read at a glance. Every reading says how sure it is. Nothing ever covers your speed: no ads, no pop-ups while you move, and no subscription.
What it does.
Everything below is in the app today. Nothing is promised for later.
Read it at a glance
- A car-style dial with a large, steady number that does not flicker.
- When you move, only the speed, the distance and the time stay on screen. Tap to see the buttons.
- Car, bike, walk and boat modes, in km/h, mph or knots.
Honest
- Every reading shows the phone's own accuracy, for example “± 1 km/h · 14 satellites”.
- Standing still shows 0, not a number that drifts.
- No GPS signal? It says so, and never shows an old number as new.
- Speed from the GPS chip's Doppler reading, not from the map.
Alert, trips, HUD
- Go over your speed and the whole dial turns coral, with a short chime.
- Trips record with the screen off or in another app, with Pause and Stop in the notification.
- A head-up display, mirrored for the windshield at night.
Free, and Pro
- Free: the speedometer, every mode and unit, the HUD, one alert and your last trip.
- Pro, one payment: every trip with route and speed chart, GPX and CSV, 3 alerts with a voice, the speed over Maps.
- No subscription, no ads. Your location and trips stay on your phone.
Questions
Is Speedometer free?
Yes. The speedometer, all modes and units, the head-up display, one speed alert and your last trip are free. Pro is one payment (US$2.99) for every trip with its route and speed chart, GPX and CSV share, up to 3 alerts with a voice, and the speed floating over other apps. No subscription, no ads.
How accurate is it?
The speed comes from the GPS chip's Doppler reading, and every reading shows the phone's own accuracy, for example “± 1 km/h”. Standing still shows 0. When the GPS signal is lost, the app says so instead of showing an old number.
Does it record a trip with the screen off?
Yes. A trip you start keeps recording with the screen off or in another app, with the speed, Pause and Stop in the notification. The app never asks for background location: the trip starts only from the open app.
Is there a head-up display?
Yes. A full-screen view that is mirrored for the windshield, for night driving. It shows the same dial as the app, on black.
Does it show speed limits or cameras?
No. That needs map data the app does not have. You set your own speed alert, and the dial turns coral above it, with a short chime.
When is it on Google Play?
Soon. The app is finished and in testing. This page will link to Google Play on the day it is out.
